    Humans don't "burn" fat or calories. #1 know your goal. Warm-up is not just cardio. You want to include joint specific work also. You over complicate the squat, and don't curl the toes up. How is one to pinch the skin on their back when deadlifting? Totally agree about the plank. Why is everyone so plank crazy? The best thing for fat loss it strength/cardio.

    • @DanHellman
      @DanHellman 7 днів тому

      @@oldnatty61 where do I start with this. First and foremost thanks for watching. This is 15 minutes of my 35 plus years of experience. “Burn fat calories” is a figure of speech I don’t want to bore or overwhelm people with the biology. Of course warm up is not just cardio all of my clients go through a specific non-articular warm up prior to exercise or sport. The squat in my opinion is the most important exercise in the gym. When we teach the squat course it is a 3 day program. Lifting the toes up is done initially to help the person correct their gravity line. How is one to pinch the skin? Easy practice with no weight in the beginning to get the movement down. As far as planks go I have no idea why people are so crazy about them. Too much planking I feel has a negative impact on the viscera of the body and hinders the mechanics and architecture of the spine. Yes a combo of cardio and weightlifting is the best however as people get older they tend to prioritize cardio for some reason and I think that is a mistake

    • @oldnatty61

      @@DanHellman First, I want to commend you on a well put together and presented video. I believe you know your stuff, and am a professional. To that end don't fall in the trap of using figures of speech to gloss over important concepts that need to be explained like average trainers do. The whole "fat/calorie burning weight loss" thing can be explained easily and it really turns the light on for people. Glad you do more than cardio for warm-up. The squat is one of the most important exercises. Done thousands, but it doesn't take 3 days to teach, and, for the very same reason you went into the whole thing about maintaining spine alignment and not lifting the head, the toes shouldn't be curled up. As far as the squat being the most important exercise. I would have agreed a few years back, but it's may hypothesis that the trap bar deadlift is better. Especially if done w/ a shrug, and a deficit if at all possible. Why? Benefits of squat and dead w/ greater total muscular stimulation. I guess? If you want to pinch the skin on your back, but that's putting people out of position also? Makes more sense to me just to practice it w/ a light load, maybe even a broomstick. Totally agree. Low intensity cardio and this 10k step sound bite is getting way overblown, but the strength training is foundational and cario is not thing is starting to pick-up tracktion w/ the starting strength people, and look at them. None that I've seen are in shape, coach's or clients. So, again, it's up to us as the professionals to educate. Don't be afraid of Rippetoe. I mean look at his gut. I'm sure you can out run him.

      Shelley - The ELDOA will give space to the L4-L5 space. A cyst is due to friction at that area. Do you know exactly where the cysts are? The only thing we can do non-surgical about the cyst is to give freedom to the tissues that are surrounding it. That is usually done with specific myofascial stretching or global postural stretching.

Go heavy if going for pure strength, lighter if just starting or working on other things such as endurance or balance. Seems like ONE exercise to simplify everything. I can't keep up with all the different variants of exercises for this and that nor do I have the time and most people are probably the same. so it's a position you hold at extreme range that helps prevent injury... got it, so it's stretching or yoga ... but you want to call it something else and keep the movements secret so you can profit from it from people that know nothing about fitness and PT, what a bunch of BS. Physical trainers, PT, ART, you can find and see an explaination of the exercises cause they aren't a snake oil salesman

      I am not sure what you are "ranting" about? Although an ELDOA posture may look like a yoga pose it is not. Anyone who has ever done ELDOA will tell you exactly the same thing. So, stop "ranting" and try it.. LOL Where do you live? I am sure there is an ELDOA practitioner nearby I can refer you to. Google ELDOA and there are a lot of videos on it. Although many of them are not so good. Have a good one.

    You should be going lower. You're not even to parallel

      You are correct. When I am working out and not focusing on talking to the camera I go to the point of where my thighs are parallel to the earth. Thank you for your comment.
