Great stuff!
Love it sir
Really nice. T8-T9 killed me 🙂 something weird is stuck around my left scap border/ribs in L5-S1.
Hey Dan, In the roll and unroll why exhale through both the extension and flexion phases?
@@Peachylifecoach because that keeps the diaphragm up, so there is no fighting against the rectus abdominous and the diaphragm if you do this, that will help prevent any type of hernia or diastasis recti
Humans don't "burn" fat or calories. #1 know your goal. Warm-up is not just cardio. You want to include joint specific work also. You over complicate the squat, and don't curl the toes up. How is one to pinch the skin on their back when deadlifting? Totally agree about the plank. Why is everyone so plank crazy? The best thing for fat loss it strength/cardio.
@@oldnatty61 where do I start with this. First and foremost thanks for watching. This is 15 minutes of my 35 plus years of experience. “Burn fat calories” is a figure of speech I don’t want to bore or overwhelm people with the biology. Of course warm up is not just cardio all of my clients go through a specific non-articular warm up prior to exercise or sport. The squat in my opinion is the most important exercise in the gym. When we teach the squat course it is a 3 day program. Lifting the toes up is done initially to help the person correct their gravity line. How is one to pinch the skin? Easy practice with no weight in the beginning to get the movement down. As far as planks go I have no idea why people are so crazy about them. Too much planking I feel has a negative impact on the viscera of the body and hinders the mechanics and architecture of the spine. Yes a combo of cardio and weightlifting is the best however as people get older they tend to prioritize cardio for some reason and I think that is a mistake
@@DanHellman First, I want to commend you on a well put together and presented video. I believe you know your stuff, and am a professional. To that end don't fall in the trap of using figures of speech to gloss over important concepts that need to be explained like average trainers do. The whole "fat/calorie burning weight loss" thing can be explained easily and it really turns the light on for people. Glad you do more than cardio for warm-up. The squat is one of the most important exercises. Done thousands, but it doesn't take 3 days to teach, and, for the very same reason you went into the whole thing about maintaining spine alignment and not lifting the head, the toes shouldn't be curled up. As far as the squat being the most important exercise. I would have agreed a few years back, but it's may hypothesis that the trap bar deadlift is better. Especially if done w/ a shrug, and a deficit if at all possible. Why? Benefits of squat and dead w/ greater total muscular stimulation. I guess? If you want to pinch the skin on your back, but that's putting people out of position also? Makes more sense to me just to practice it w/ a light load, maybe even a broomstick. Totally agree. Low intensity cardio and this 10k step sound bite is getting way overblown, but the strength training is foundational and cario is not thing is starting to pick-up tracktion w/ the starting strength people, and look at them. None that I've seen are in shape, coach's or clients. So, again, it's up to us as the professionals to educate. Don't be afraid of Rippetoe. I mean look at his gut. I'm sure you can out run him.
Giving this a try! No pain but tight pelvic muscles pulling pelvis forward and inward. Hope this will stretch and strengthen this area again for better alignment
As always great material. Thank you Dan
@@osteopathybenfleet thank you

Hi Dan how are you ? if i were to do the mobility course over the span of 2 days and repeat , what would be the best way to split the course into 2 ?
@@blxvns1324 if that was the case I would probably do every other mobility move. You would just have to write down the 2 programs.
@ okay so do mobility moves 1,3,5 and so on and then 2,4,6 and so on the next day ?

hi dan, if i have lumbar sacralisation should i be doing the aldoa at 26:08 ? it’s very painful
@@blxvns1324 if doing the ELDOA is painful then absolutely not. The ELDOA should never be painful, just difficult

Dan I have Spondilolisthesis at L4-L5 with synovial cysts on both sides. My MAT therapist connected me with your videos and has shown me many of your exercises. I’ve been doing your Spondy exercises and eldoas. I have left side glute radiating pain and cannot do anything super high intensity. What are your suggestions for exercising And do you think I can correct it, resolving the cysts.
Shelley - The ELDOA will give space to the L4-L5 space. A cyst is due to friction at that area. Do you know exactly where the cysts are? The only thing we can do non-surgical about the cyst is to give freedom to the tissues that are surrounding it. That is usually done with specific myofascial stretching or global postural stretching.
Love this video. The test for determining the cause of the issues and the stretching of the TFL, the Gluteus Medius and the Gluteus Maximus are very enlightening.
Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoy the video. Please subscribe and share my channel.
@@DanHellman Been in the bodywork business for over 35 years and worked on many people with ITBand issue using the foam roller in hopes of curing the issues and often times just aggravating it and not really understanding that the ITBand has very little contractile capabilities which makes it a symptom of some other disjunction. Your assessment techniques are unique but appear to be very spot on and I will try the stretching techniques on myself and clients. Thank you
Fabulous. So glad of this! Thank you for sharing !
Do you have any experience with folks who have transitional vertebrae? Specifically the L5-S1
Yes I have used it with both a sacralization and a lumbarization. Which do you have?
Can ELODA also help with grade 2 and 3 retrolisthesis and anterolisthesis
@@paulweylandgolf yes Paul there is actually a specific ELDOA for that. I have that on H3TV. Sometimes just the regular ElDOA at that level helps

That would pretty long. I have a program called training your core on H3TV. www.h3bydan.com here I show how to train each core muscle above the navel and below and its counterpart back muscle.

DB press on that ball looks absolutely amazing. Could you explain the benefits other than for pecs? Thanks
It’s just simply an advanced move with reciprocity from the scapular muscles.
Love it sir valuable information, I am greatful sir
You are welcome
Great info! I’m curious about your thoughts on how this sequence might change for someone with severe diastasis recti?
That changes everything. I would need to do a video about this. Please stay tuned.
He's right, but you have to add resistance into this BEST done with weight/s.
@@user-cn4tc5tq2s once my clients can reach 3 sets of 30-50 then I start adding weights and reduce the reps. Just depends on what the goals are.
Would it work to just do farmers carries with heavy dumbbells in each hand as the "do it all" core exercise?
@@benadams1826 farmers carries are a great exercise if applied properly. Just depends on the reason you are doing it.
@@DanHellman I'm thinking it's an all encompassing functional exercise that would help build strength in many parts of the body (grip, core, stabilizer muscles, entire vertical chain) as well as balance, endurance, and even cardio. Go heavy if going for pure strength, lighter if just starting or working on other things such as endurance or balance. Seems like ONE exercise to simplify everything. I can't keep up with all the different variants of exercises for this and that nor do I have the time and most people are probably the same. Need efficient, simple to remember, simple to do things as the base for everything so I settled on pushups, air squats, wall sits, dead hangs, farmers walks and a few others.
that is cool and it is a good exercise. I deal with a lot of injured people, so I normally have to start off with segmental strengthening and then move into functional exercises like the farmer's carry.
@@DanHellman That is a approach.
Amazing video, love it, learned a lot , will try these, wish me luck. Look forward to future videos
My TVA got smashed by a car accident, can not be recovered without titanium implants. Running on 50% strength at the gym these days. So annoying Good to get "Core" information out there. Most people who have a bad back have that because of their bad front - but no doctor will tell you that ever.
@@Stuart.Branson. very sorry to hear about your injury
10:50 If you sit on a Swiss ball and move the hips, pelvic area with a focus on the pubic bone in an upward motion, you get a great lower ab workout. Adding gyrations of the hip area will also be of benefit.
@@felipearbustopotd yes that would be ok to pump that area but you are not going to build much muscle
This is crazy, this record has only one comment. I just found this record and this is amazing. Immediately I feel the pain goes away and recovering aches getting in place. I had bulging disc and restricted pelvic movements, I will do this next two weeks and see how it helps me. I have big hopes with this exercise
@@ahmetzenginoglu I am glad it is helping.
I do this with a 5lb ankle weight. It works.
Great video, this inchworm is new to me and it's great, horse stance is very misleading. Horse stance is a martial arts stance. I do that a lot. I call your exercise a crawling or quadruped plank. Actually because I crawl like that, I don't really call it anything but it's part of my crawling routine. Don't want to be picky or know better I was just confused until I saw the final position. The same cues work for the standing horse stance.
This exercise was taught to me by the Legend Paul Chek. I used to teach for the CHEK Institute. He call it Horse Stance. In honor of him and his teachings, I call it the same thing. Thank you for viewing my channel.
I am familiar with the martial arts horse-stance. I had the same reaction to what was shown in the video. When I worked in Physical Therapy we called the "horse-stance" that was shown in the video "Quadruped" or "Quadruped balance". Both "Horse-stances" have been very valuable to me over the years.
Hey man, it's nice to see a good fit dude telling me this stuff instead of an average Joe. Do these exercises help with arthritis in the L4 L5 region as well?
The best thing for L4-L5 arthritis would be the ELDOA at L4-L5. Do you konw it?
@@DanHellman Sorry, I do not know it. BUT, since I posted that comment, I've been doing your leg lift exercise (only 40 per rep though x3, 60 was a bit much) and it helped out tremendously in my lower back as in when I woke up the next day, I wasn't stiff at ALL. Love it, it's awful to do, but I feel it working.
The more big words they use, the more bullshit the exercise is.
LOL I am so sorry your ADD meds are not working. I will try to use stick figures next time and words like…. See Spot, see Jane… see Spot and Jane run up the hill. 😂😂😂😂. You so made my day 😂

@@tyler4840 why? lol I don’t want to hurt myself.
I feel pressure in my lower back when I do deadlifts so I just quit doing them. Doing deadlifts with perfect technique feels overwhelming as a beginner
Yes dead lifts can be overwhelming no doubt. On my H3TV program I break down the dead lift which is the bend pattern. I descend it so that beginners can do it and then I ascend it all the way up into Olympic lifting. If you want to take a look go to www.h3bydan.com

so it's a position you hold at extreme range that helps prevent injury... got it, so it's stretching or yoga ... but you want to call it something else and keep the movements secret so you can profit from it from people that know nothing about fitness and PT, what a bunch of BS. Physical trainers, PT, ART, you can find and see an explaination of the exercises cause they aren't a snake oil salesman
I am not sure what you are "ranting" about? Although an ELDOA posture may look like a yoga pose it is not. Anyone who has ever done ELDOA will tell you exactly the same thing. So, stop "ranting" and try it.. LOL Where do you live? I am sure there is an ELDOA practitioner nearby I can refer you to. Google ELDOA and there are a lot of videos on it. Although many of them are not so good. Have a good one.
